The short version
- Cigna is leaving the individual ACA Marketplace in every state where it sells plans (11 states), affecting about 369,000 people.
- Baylor Scott & White Health Plan is leaving the Texas Marketplace, affecting about 100,000 people.
- If you're enrolled with either one, you must choose a new plan for 2027.
- Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1.
- Your subsidy doesn't depend on your insurance company. Switching carriers won't cost you your tax credit.
What's happening
Two insurance companies have announced they won't offer individual and family Marketplace plans for 2027. The two decisions are separate, but they land at the same time, and Texas is hit by both.
Cigna
Cigna announced on April 30, 2026 that it is exiting the individual ACA market entirely at the end of this year.
Baylor Scott & White Health Plan
Baylor Scott & White Health Plan is ending its Marketplace plans at the end of 2026 (it also exited Texas Medicaid).
Both companies are shifting their focus to employer and Medicare coverage. That means this only affects individual and family Marketplace plans. If you get Cigna or Baylor Scott & White coverage through your job, or you have a Medicare Advantage plan, this change does not affect you.
Good news if you love your Baylor Scott & White doctors
The insurance plan is leaving, not the hospital system. Baylor Scott & White has said its hospitals and clinics will keep accepting Marketplace insurance. Many 2027 plans from other carriers may still include your Baylor Scott & White doctors. We'll check the network for you before you enroll.
Am I affected?
You're affected if your individual or family health plan for 2026 is with Cigna (in any state) or Baylor Scott & White Health Plan (Texas). Not sure? Check the name on your insurance card, or log in to your HealthCare.gov account, where your insurance company is listed on your current plan.
You should also receive a discontinuation letter from your insurance company before Open Enrollment. Keep it. It explains that your plan won't renew.
Why you shouldn't just let it auto-renew
When a carrier leaves, the Marketplace may automatically place you in a similar plan from another company for 2027. That sounds convenient, but "similar" can hide real differences:
- Different doctor network. Your primary care doctor or specialist might not be included.
- Different drug coverage. Your prescriptions could move to a higher-cost tier or not be covered.
- Different costs. The deductible and out-of-pocket maximum can change even if the premium looks close.
This is exactly what we do every day at Get Covered USA: we verify your doctors and your medications before you enroll, then compare every available plan so you get the best coverage for the price.

Common questions
Is my plan ending right now?
No. Your 2026 plan continues through December 31, 2026, with no changes to your benefits or network for the rest of this year. It just won't renew for 2027.
Will I lose my subsidy (premium tax credit) if I switch companies?
No. Your tax credit is based on your household income and size, not on which insurance company you choose. You'll keep whatever financial help you qualify for when you move to a new carrier on the Marketplace. We recommend updating your 2027 income estimate while you're at it, since that's what sets the amount.
Can I keep my doctor?
Often, yes, but it depends on the new plan's network. That's why we check your specific doctors and hospitals before you enroll instead of guessing.
What happens if I do nothing?
You may be automatically moved into a different company's plan for 2027, one you didn't choose, with a network, drug list, and deductible that may not fit your needs. Or, if you're not re-enrolled, you could end up without coverage on January 1. Choosing on purpose is the safest option.
My Cigna or Baylor Scott & White coverage is through my employer. Am I affected?
No. Both exits apply only to individual and family Marketplace plans. Employer group plans and Medicare Advantage plans are not affected.
Does it cost anything to work with Get Covered USA?
No. Our service is 100% free to you. You pay the same premium whether you enroll on your own or with our help.
